Beans: Who Know They Could Be So Sweet?

Beans: Who Know They Could Be So Sweet?

Beans are a staple of the human diet around the world. They come in all shapes, sizes and colors. The red bean or pat (팥) is very popular in Korean cuisine and not to be confused with the red kidney bean, which is almost twice the size. Because of its naturally subtle sweet flavor, it is used in many treats and desserts in Korea. Here are a few of the popular treats:

  • Chapssaltteok (찹쌀떡) - Red bean-filled rice cakes
  •  Patbingsu (팥빙수) - Shaved ice with sweet red beans
