5 Halloween Party Twists on Korean Snacks

Halloween is one of the most anticipated holidays of the year, with spooky feels, funky music, great costumes, and in general a fun time; all highlighting the last day of October for everyone, globally. Although it is a western celebration, it has rapidly spread worldwide, and now getting dressed and trick-or-treating is known and practiced by virtually every continent. In the spirit of Halloween, whether you are giving out sweets, organising a house party, or meeting up with some friends on a night out, here are some homemade snacks to complete the night! 

PEPERO HAUNTED FOREST

What You'll Need:

  • 1 Pack of Chocolate Pepero
  • 250ml Double Cream (room temperature)
  • 1 bar melting chocolate (melted) 
  • Cocoa powder (for dusting)
  • Small halloween decorations

Instructions:

  1. Whisk the double cream until soft peaks form. Add the melted chocolate and mix well.
  2. Pour into a round or fluted cake tray. Chill for 1 hour.
  3. Once chilled, remove from baking tray and dust the chocolate truffle mix with the cocoa powder.
  4. Poke the Pepero sticks onto the chocolate truffle mix.
  5. Add the Halloween decorations, and the haunted forest is ready to be served! 

BLOODY RICE DRINK

What You'll Need: 

  • 250ml Morning Rice Drink 
  • Blue and red food colouring
  • Canned Lychee
  • Grapes

Instructions:

  1. Mix the Morning Rice Drink with blue and red food colouring (for every 5 drops of red, add 1 blue), until you are satisfied with the colour. Pour into a glass.
  2. Stuff a grape into a lychee, and add to your drink. You now have a fresh glass of blood with an eye! 

GRAVEYARD RICE CRACKERS

What You'll Need:

  • 1 bag of seaweed rice crackers
  • Grated cheese
  • 2 avocados, mashed
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup salsa 
  • Spring onions
  • Black food gel, or a black food safe marker

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180ºC (356ºF).
  2. In an oven dish, layer the mashed avocados, then sour cream, and salsa. Sprinkle a generous amount of cheese.
  3. Bake it for 15 minutes, or until the cheese starts turning gold.
  4. While baking, add crosses, RIP and other grave stone related words on the rice crackers.
  5. Before the cheese cools down, place the rice crackers to form your very own rice cracker graveyard! 

MONSTER MOCHI

What You'll Need:

  • 1 packet of mochi
  • Writing icing or food gel

Instructions:

  1. Take out the mochi and lay them out on a plate.
  2. Use the writing icing or food dye gel to decorate the mochi with Halloween-themed drawings: Ghosts, pumpkins, spiders… The limit is your imagination! 

ZOMBIE SATSUMAS

What You'll Need:

  • 1 packet of roasted and peeled chestnuts
  • 1 packet of preserved mandarin peel
  • Writing icing or food gel

Instructions:

  1. Place the mandarin peels on a dish, in star formations.
  2. In the middle of each star formation, place a roasted chestnut.
  3. Draw gruesome faces on the chestnuts with the writing icing or food gel. The more gruesome the facial expressions, the better!
