The Korean Folk Village
Taking you to a time that is not your own, the Korean Folk Village brings the late Joseon Period back to life! In order to accomplish this, the Korean Folk Village has constructed realistic structures of a market village, nobleman’s mansion, Confucian academy, and a traditional workshop among other things. Furthermore, the Korean Folk Village offers classes and performs customs that give its guests the opportunity to experience Korean culture.
Depending on the season, this village stages many engaging performances, a beautiful wedding ceremony, martial arts on horseback, and other thrilling events that you will not want to miss out on. Seeing as this village offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience, it is safe to assume that your time in the Korean Folk Village will not be wasted!
- Location and Admission
Located in Yongin-si, it is recommended to take the train at Gangnam Station until exit 5. Then, walk to the bus stop to take the bus to the Korean Folk Village. Once you arrive, you will just have to walk for five minutes to get past the car parking area and reach the entrance of the village. Of course, you could always drive to the Korean Folk Village or taking other modes of transportation (taxi, etc.), but the subway is one of the most recommended for travelers.
Nonetheless, once arriving, you will have to pay for the admission fee. The rates are as follows: an individual adult will cost 20,000₩, an individual adolescent will cost 17,000₩, and an individual child will cost 15,000₩. The prices differ depending on whether or not you classify as a group (minimum of twenty people required), but usually one will have to pay those listed above. Either way, after that, you can freely explore the Korean Folk Village and indulge in the activities that they have to offer. - The Village
The Korean Folk Village has countless activities and performances that keep its visitors engaged and excited. In fact, the following are a list of the performances seen at the Korean Folk Village: Farmer’s Music and Dance, Acrobatics on a Tightrope, Equestrian Feats, and the Traditional Wedding Ceremony.
Aside from these shows, the Korean Folk Village has a lot more to offer. For instance, you can visit the scholars home which showcases many weaving baskets and rooms with decor fashioned after the Joseon Period. If feeling a need for adventure, you can visit the Play Village where they will share a variety of hometown legends and ghost stories. Furthermore, you will want to visit the Bazaar since exploring the park can take up a lot of energy. There one can find a variety of traditional Korean foods that one can enjoy along with dongdongju (traditional liquor)!
Aside from attracting many visitors for its allure, the traditional atmosphere and architectural display have also captivated many directors. For this reason, many historical dramas have been shot at this village. In fact, dramas such as Moon Embracing the Sun (2012) and Face Reader (2013) have been shot in the Korean Folk Village.
With its realistic atmosphere, activities, and performances, the Korean Folk Village does not fail to give its visitors the opportunity to experience the Joseon Period.
