Red Velvet Opens the ReVe Festival Finale with 'Psycho'

Ready for the last day of the ReVe Festival?

Red Velvet is back with the closing installment of their three-day festival concept, The ReVe Festival: Finale! Teasers dropped earlier this month, along with concept photos that instantly had everyone in awe.

The versions were split between day and night. The images were contrasting, but all had a solemn sheen over them.

ReVeLuvs were all wondering — what would “Psycho” be?

It’s quite different from their energetic “Zimzalabim” and not as summery as “Umpah Umpah,” blending airy, sleek urban beats with catchy lyrics. Starting off with the plucks of a harp and Seulgi’s haunting vocals, there is something quite encaptivating about it. The chorus spins much like anxious thoughts in your head, but it’s not bleak. There’s a little comfort mixed in there. At the end, they sing:

Hey, now we’ll be okay
It’s alright
It’s alright
We’re a little weird
Psycho

“Psycho” is about crazy, tumultuous love and is truly unlike anything they have done before. The cinematography is upped to a new level with this music video, showcasing intricate outfits, crystals lining their faces, and grandiose sets. Along with the memorable choreography, you can see how they have grown since “Ice Cream Cake.”

The ReVe Festival: Finale repackaged album comes with songs from the other days and also a couple of new ones! There is “La Rouge,” which features sultry vocals on a track reminiscent of both the Wild West and a jazz club. A slow, yet somewhat-light swaying ballad called “Remember Forever” is as soft as sunlight peeking through on a cold winter day. Then, there’s the subtlety fierce “In & Out,” which is a game of tag between beats that mixes baking instruments in its lyrics — it’s almost like a spell is being cast.

Red Velvet performed some songs from this album at their special event, La Rouge, which was held at Korea University’s Hwa-Jeong Tiger dorm on the 23rd and 24th of November. But no need to worry! You can still catch their first stage performance of “Psycho” on December 25 at the 2019 SBS Gayo Daejeon
