Okay, But What is Banana Milk?

Okay, But What is Banana Milk?

If you’re a fan of Korean snacks, then you’ve definitely heard of banana milk or have at least seen the familiar jar shaped plastic bottle. What started off as an encouragement to drink more milk from the Korean government turned into a phenomenon when the company called Binggrae introduced this product. At the time of its release to the public, bananas were considered a luxury due to how expensive they were. Consumers were attracted to the milk for the taste of banana that they couldn’t afford in the actual form.

As the popularity of this drink grew in Korea Binggrae started to export the flavored milk, and now it is available in 13 nations which include Canada, China, and the Philippines. Roughly 800,000 bottles of banana flavored milk are sold every day in Korea, and since the product launched in 1974, over 6 billion have been sold across the country.

If you aren’t fond of banana there are other flavors that the company has released such as strawberry and melon though these aren’t as popular as the original banana flavor.

But for some sadly the bottles of savory milk have not yet reached them. Don’t fret too much because although it’s not straight from Binggrae this simple recipe will satisfy your craving.

  • 2 ½ cups milk
  • 3 ripe bananas
